With all of Hess factors opposing him he rises to success and uses all of his talents to over comes any situation. Although he does not always make the right and most rational decisions, especially at the end of the play, he overcome a great obstacle, one that many men have died and suffered for, to reach the top as an African American. In modern day there is one man who has done just this. With the disadvantage of his skin color in a field dominated by white men for hundreds of years, he has used every aspect of his intelligence and character to break boundaries that have left any In tears.
This great man who has made history In the 21st century goes by the name of Barack Hussein Obama. Obama has withstood every obstacle, has achieved the title of President of the united States, and has made history as the first black president. Like Othello, Obama has received many discriminating messages and even death threats, but this did not stop him. Even with a country full of white men stating that it is impossible for a black to win, some going as far as saying he will be assassinated due to the color of his skin. Obama pushed forward Ignoring all theses hearts and statements.
This In a country who not long ago enslaved and tortured blacks is now willing to let one rule there country. This from a country who separated blacks in every day life with segregated bathrooms and schools have now chosen an African American to rule the most powerful country in the world and there home. Obama truly has obtained the seemingly impossible in achieving the highest rank in what was a white man’s world. Othello was always being prayed on and was constantly being tricked Into making mistakes; Obama received most of the same pressure.
As the first black president he is being analyzed more then any other president before him. Whatever results he produces, weather good or bad, will be criticized mainly due to his race. Another reason that his job is more stressful as past presidents is the fact that he choose to take over the country in a depressive state. What every decisions Obama makes will effect the future of this country ten folds, which adds more amazement that the fate of the country was given to some one who would have been a slave only one hundred fifty years ago.
Other similarities between Othello and Obama are that in the story of “Othello” the main character Othello was married to a white woman. This was very controversial among the characters in the play. They had racist comments about how he does not belong with her and that he must have tricked her into marring him. In modern day Obama faced a similar situation. When running to be elected a candidate Tort ten presidency en ran gallant a went woman, Hillary Clinton. I Nils also arose controversy not only if Obama could beat a white person but a women.
There was also another depth to the situation thought; voters had to choose between an African American or a woman. So for the fist time in history voters and to over come there racist minds or there sexist minds, this was very controversial in deed. Like we all know all of America overcame there racist minds for the sexist part of there minds, well maybe in the future a women will finally be elected. Not only did Obama run against Hilary in the primaries but he ran against a white man for the real presidential election.
It did not stop there though, when Obama was anally elected president he had the decency to ask Hilary to be in his cabinet, similar to Othello and his wife, Desman. There is no denying it that before Obama was president this country was a white man’s nation for the past few hundred years. With racism driven through the nation’s history it is a radical change to think that it would be ruled by non other then an African American. Just as in Othello being of such high authority in a white society.
Other characteristics that both Obama and Othello share are that they both strive o make themselves better, and better the world that they are in. Just as Othello did not have to second guess about rushing into battle for the aid of his allies, and to put his life in danger or the safety of his country Obama did the same. Obama rushed into a country full of troubles and declining markets at the risk of historical and social criticism to help better the country and save it from entering yet another great depression. Obama took action to run and win the presidency in the hardest time in
American history in order to better the world he lives in, Just as Othello ran into battle to keep his country safe from invasion. In conclusion Othello and Obama are very similar in both appearance and in characteristics, weather it being success in a racial discriminating world or having the courage to aid a country in distress in there time of dire need. Both of them are heroes of there time and will go down in history not as black men who did the world good but patriotic men who bettered there country when it need them most.
